Scouting Families, Community Organizations & Interested Parties:
I am reaching out today to share some news. The national organization of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) exited bankruptcy today.
The BSA’s financial restructuring process comes to an end with the overwhelming support of more than 85% of abuse survivors involved in the case and is set to establish a compensation fund for survivors currently valued at $2.4 billion, with the opportunity for additional contributions by numerous other parties. We are sincerely grateful for all survivors, whose bravery, patience, and willingness to share their experiences has moved us beyond words.
The Greater Hudson Valley Council remains committed to delivering our nation’s foremost program for character development and values-based leadership training in New York and Pennsylvania. Our council provides countless experiences for young people in our area each year. We are looking forward to an enriching summer of programming, including Resident Camp at Curtis S. Read Scout Reservation, Day Camp at Camp Bullowa, Family Camp at Durland Scout Reservation, along with numerous other summer programs: National Jamboree, NYLT, Wood Badge, etc.
Thanks to your leadership and support, the Greater Hudson Valley Council is well positioned to continue serving our community for generations to come. Details regarding this announcement can be found on the national organization’s dedicated restructuring website www.BSARestructuring.org. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Yours in Scouting,
Richard Stockton
